Patent Ductus Arteriosus and Thoracoabdominal Aortopulmonary Collaterals: Case Report in a Neonate

Abstract

A case of persistent ductus arteriosus associated with thoracoabdominal pulmonary collaterals causing congestive heart failure in a neonate is reported. Two anomalous vessels arising from the aorta, close to the origin of the subclavian artery, and a third vessel arising near the troncus celiacus were detected after initial ductus ligation. Initially an infradiaphragmatic aortopulmonary collateral was detected by echo Doppler ultrasound, and con-firmed during cardiac catheterization. Pulmonary venous return was normal and embolization with coils was possible with total successful occlusion of the collateral vessels.
